yourSanctuary: Volunteering

Welcome to our volunteer section on the yourSanctuary website!

At yourSanctuary, the contribution made by you, our volunteers, is very much recognised and appreciated by all.  Without you, we couldn’t continue to provide the same level and range of support to people experiencing or who have experienced domestic abuse.

Thinking about volunteering?

We know that volunteering benefits yourSanctuary, our clients and the wider community.....but do you know that volunteering is good for you too?  The benefits may include:

  • Improving your self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Meeting new people and making new friends
  • Learning new skills
  • Gaining experience
  • Enhancing your CV
  • Trying something new
  • Gaining a sense of satisfaction and achievement by helping others
  • Having fun
  • A positive impact on your health.

At yourSanctuary, we offer comprehensive training and a friendly, supportive environment where all of our volunteers have an allocated member of staff to offer guidance on an on-going basis.   This, along with our twice yearly volunteer events, bi-monthly CEO newsletter and an annual survey, are just some of the ways in which we demonstrate our commitment to providing an excellent volunteering experience.

All potential volunteers attend a ‘Getting to Know Us’ evening at our head office and are asked, if wishing to proceed, to provide two referees and undertake a DBS (disclosure and barring service) check.

Existing Volunteers

  •  New ways of getting involved

Are you a volunteer in one of our refuges?  Or do you volunteer on our reception? Ever thought about trying something new?  At yourSanctuary we are keen to encourage our volunteers to spread their wings.  If you have something else to contribute or would like to try out a new role then please speak to Karen, or your volunteer supervisor, who will always be happy to talk to you about the opportunities that exist.   It doesn’t have to be a big change – perhaps you could run a one off activity session, share some IT knowledge or help out in the crèche when we run the Freedom programme for our clients.

  • Recommend a new volunteer

Do you have a friend who you think would be a great volunteer for yourSanctuary?  Please spread the word and encourage others to think about volunteering.  They would be very welcome to attend one of our ‘Getting to Know Us’ evenings for potential volunteers without any commitment.

  • Feedback

Please feel free to contact Karen, your Volunteer Supervisor, or a member of the Management team if you ever have any feedback on your volunteering; we welcome all suggestions and comments.
