Children's Support Worker
Salary £22,291 pa (full time equivalent £26,750 pa)
30 hours per week Monday to Friday (10am to 5pm with one hour unpaid for lunch)
Plus occasional emergency on call shifts as part of a rota (additional shift allowance paid)
Are you looking for a dynamic and fulfilling role where you can make a difference and enrich the lives of children who have experienced domestic abuse? If so, we are looking for a fun, passionate and enthusiastic individual to join our amazing team working within our refuge.
The work is entirely child led where we offer activities such as play, art & crafts, games or anything else that a child may be interested in to facilitate exploration of feelings, emotions, worries and the child’s own experience of domestic abuse.
We are looking for:

Experience and understanding of working with children affected by trauma, on a 1:1 and group basis, supporting them through a range of difficult situations

Knowledge and understanding of child development, safeguarding issues, child protection, the Children’s Act 1989 and 2004, issues surrounding child contact, residence and other relevant legislation

Passion for providing a safe space for vulnerable children

Ability to build trust and strong working relationships with colleagues, children, parents and other professionals, working in partnership where required.

Ability to use a variety of techniques to clearly and successfully communicate with both children and adults

Strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt to changing needs

A full UK driving licence, a reliable car that can be used for work purposes and to live no further than a 45 minute drive from our offices in Woking.
Your role will involve planning and delivering a range of high-quality work with children that meets their needs, working closely with colleagues, the non-abusive parent, schools, and other professionals to ensure the safety and well-being of those we support. Developing a dialogue with children and their non-abusive parent in order to assess their needs, along with advocating and signposting, are key to the role as is creating a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment. You will also support non-abusive parents to rebuild their confidence and parenting skills. Although emotionally challenging at times, the role is rewarding and enjoyable as you will be fostering creativity, imagination, and resilience as well as offering support during difficult times.
At Your Sanctuary we offer 25 days annual leave per annum plus Public Holidays (pro rate for part-time staff), a contributory pension scheme and an employee assistance programme along with high quality training and development. The working hours for this role are 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday as there is a need to be available to provide support after the children return home from school. We are unable to offer term-time working for this role.
