Your Sanctuary Needs You
Could it be your neighbour? Your best friend? Your doctor? The truth is, a victim of domestic abuse could be anyone – and a lot closer to home than you may realise. On average, two women are killed by their partner or ex-partner every week in England and Wales. Every hour, the police receive over 100 calls relating to domestic abuse.
The issue is greater than most realise. It’s likely most- if not all – of these victims feel incredibly trapped, and that there is little help and support available. To achieve our vision of a world free from Domestic Abuse, we need help. Support from the local community is vital.
We offer sanctuary, support and empowerment to domestic abuse victims, with staff and volunteers providing practical and emotional support for those who need us. Our services are reliant on donations to ensure we can keep providing our services – helping individuals become survivors, not victims.
Giving help could involve doing something with your friends or colleagues to raise money – something as simple as a coffee morning, or wearing purple for the day (the internationally recognised colour for domestic abuse).
You may consider volunteering with us, in various areas that could include children’s services, outreach service, or helpline service.
With summer around the corner, and daylight hours longer, consider doing something outside of your comfort zone that will help save lives and families in our area. Every day you could be passing someone in the street who is suffering. Help us help them.
